CARBONDALE
- The Central Cougars have made it to Peoria before with their most recent visit being in 2012, a year in which they won the 2A state championship.

For head coach Jeremy Shubert, who was an assistant to head coach Stan Eagleson at the time, this is his first try as a head coach to take home a championship back to Clinton County.

His top scorer helped make sure that they will get a chance at the title as the 6-foot-2 senior leader led the way with 22-points as the Cougars improved to 30-4 with the victory over Teutopolis, denying the Wooden Shoes a shot at making it back to Peoria for the first time since 2007.

Kohrmann led an attack that outscored their opposition 17-5 in the second quarter to take a 32-19 lead at intermission.

Jack Strieker, a 6-foot-2 junior, tossed in 12-points for the balanced Breese Central attack while teammate Kolby Schulte netted nine.

Central has split two games with the Wooden Shoes, losing to them 42-38 back on December 4 while topping T-Town 52-43 in the final game of the Nashville Invitational Tournament back on January 23.

Tuesday night meant much more as the Cougars will now make their sixth trip to Carver Arena.

Teutopolis, under head coach Jason Hanson who took over this season, fell short once again in a bid to make it back to Peoria.

The Shoes have lost five consecutive sectional title games in six seasons as their season closed at 26-7.

Senior forwards Brett Mette and Mitch Hardiek each scored 14-points while senior guard Devin Smith added 10-points as offensively Teutopolis never got on track.

The Wooden Shoes were just 19-of-44 overall from the floor while hitting 4-of-9 from the 3-point arc.

In contrast, the Cougars were a bit better at 19-of-39 overall and they nailed nine 3-pointers on the night with Kohrmann connecting four times.

Central will now face St. Joseph-Ogden, a 56-43 winner over Pleasant Plains at the Springfield Supersectional.
