ABV RANKINGS - JANUARY 30, 2012

The top tier teams continue to impress while a few shake-ups occurred down the list.
As ABV has mentioned in the past, the weekly rankings are based on “who's hot” and “who's not” so the deck gets re-shuffled each week. ABV still believes that the preseason and current the top ones will make it to Carver Arena in March.
Carbondale Supersectional Area "Top Ten" Class 1A Rankings
1. MERIDIAN (18-2)
The Bobcats handled another tough test, winning at rival Goreville on Tuesday before spanking Dongola on Friday night. Fine tuning this potential title machine is tantamount.
2. WOODLAWN (19-2)
Rolled past a couple of MTC teams this past week. Coach Witzel's team knows the way to the Supersectional. S-V on the road on Tuesday is big rivalry game.
3. EGYPTIAN (17-4)
The Pharaohs are still the ABV 'sleeper' team in this postseason picture. The Meridian/Egyptian regional final winner will be a big Gallatin County Sectional favorite.
4. ST. ELMO (16-5)
Coach Feezel is another one who has his eye on a big prize. The Eagles lost to two powerhouse programs last week in the NTC. Should be the top seed @ Altamont Regional.
5. DIETERICH (16-4)
The Movin Maroons move back up the rankings following their second place finish at the NTC. Coach VanSyoc will have this crew postseason ready.
6. SESSER-VALIER (14-8)
The Red Devils didn't fare too well @ Trico on Friday. But Coach Basso's bunch gets a crack at Woodlawn on Tuesday night, a place where they have had some recent success.
7. GALLATIN COUNTY (12-7)
The Hawks finally got a win over rival Crab Orchard, winning the GEC Tournament. Coach Patton's club would love a spot in their own sectional in March.
8. HUTSONVILLE-PALESTINE (17-6)
The Tigers made a very good showing in the LIC Tournament, finishing third after nearly upsetting Flora in the semi's. They could also be a sectional threat to Woodlawn.
9. GOREVILLE (13-7)
Gave the top dogs on this list a run before losing late. Coach Tripp's team will probably nab the top seed at Crab Orchard on strength of schedule.
10. CRAB ORCHARD (20-2)
The 'wake up call' was delivered on Saturday night by Mr. Drone and the Hawks. Coach Brown's Trojans must regroup to close out the GEC and get ready for the regional.
HONORABLE MENTION (IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER)
Altamont, Cairo, Carrier Mills, Christ Our Rock Lutheran, Cisne, Cowden-Herrick, Dongola, Hardin County, Oblong, Neoga, Sandoval, South Central, Stewardson-Strasburg, Waltonville and Wayne City.
Carbondale Supersectional Area "Top Ten" Class 2A Rankings
1. BREESE CENTRAL (22-1)
The BC train is picking up steam but face challenges ahead. Carlyle on the road is the first one. Brandon Book is nearing the school mark for individual points.
2. OLNEY EAST RICHLAND (20-2)
The Tigers are the real deal and a threat to Central. After winning six games in nine days, Olney got a well deserved rest. Back to Apollo Conference wars this week.
3. FLORA (21-2)
Beat two good ones in winning the LIC Tournament. Coach Leib's crew will face some tough ones the rest of the way. Knapp is approaching the school's all-time scoring mark.
4. MARQUETTE CATHOLIC (22-2)
No shame in losing to Glenbard East at St. Louis Shootout. Coach Medford's club has four regs left, three of which look tough.
5. HARRISBURG (20-4)
Grabbed a big conference win over Murphysboro. Toughest weekend of the season looms. At Massac County and Benton Shootout vs. Teutopolis.
6. BREESE MATER DEI (15-4)
Took care of MVC foes Triad and CM last week. The Knights get one more regular season shot at Central on Feb. 10 then maybe another chance on Feb. 24 @ Freeburg.
7. NEWTON (16-3)
The Eagles slammed Paris in its only outing last week. They are a very talented group that could give Olney or Flora a regional run.
8. PANA (16-2)
Took care of Greenville in SCC play before taking the weekend off. Game at Vandalia this week should settle the East Division championship race.
9. PINCKNEYVILLE (19-4)
Coach Waggoner's crew picked up two more victories, including an impressive win over 4A Alton on Saturday at their own Panther Showcase.
10. CARLYLE (17-6)
The Indians rallied for a big non-conference win over Nashville on the road last Saturday. They get another bout with Central on Tuesday night.
